Injuries are brutal when you have a lineup of only half-a-dozen knights, and the enemies you fight tend to outnumber your unskilled soldiers. The difficulty is also almost entirely front-loaded. The warp surges trigger random effects that can range from basically nothing (I had it stick a negative status on a character who was immune to it) to a nearly guaranteed loss (enjoy fighting respawning zombies with 7 armor when your attacks do maybe 4 damage). The tutorial will explain a neat stun and critical hit mechanic for targeted attacks and executions, then you'll realize these rarely come up because most enemies have had their stun values boosted or made entirely immune to it. Similarly, you'll get messages about no reinforcements left, only to have more poof in behind you, who then immediately act. The only way to discover a unit gets to spam a brutal armor-and-cover ignoring AoE is to be on the receiving end of it, because the inspect mode doesn't think that's important for you to know. There's something of a trick to it, because it lets you examine units, but then lies to you. Next, it has something of a learning cliff, because it doesn't explain anything. I wouldn't recommend Ironman for a couple of reasons.įirst, the game is not entirely bug-free, so some risk there for ironman.
